The FiiO M3 is the first in FiiO’s new hyper-portable budget DAP range. Weighing in at only 40g and boasting a tiny footprint of 74mm x 39.7mm x 9.1mm, the M3 is not much bigger than a lighter. Despite this it has a max output power of <50mW (16 Ω/THD+N<1%) and can drive headphones between 16~100 Ω.

In keeping with FiiO’s focus on high quality sound at a low cost; the M3 is one of the only portable music players of this size to include a separate DAC chip in its construction. This both reduces the load on the system chip whilst improving the overall musical fidelity of your music files. What’s more, the M3 can support lossless playback of APE, FLAC and WAV files at up to 96kHz/24 bit resolution (alongside the usual lossy formats like MP3, OGG etc.). Storage for these files comes in the form of a microSD slot that supports cards up to 64GB as well as an inbuilt memory of 8 GB.

FiiO decided to overhaul the user experience for the M3 and have returned to using solid, backlit buttons for navigation, allowing more space for a full colour 2” 240 x 320 pixel TFT LCD screen. As with all FiiO DAPs, the M3 will be able to upgrade its system with regular firmware updates; adding such features as an enhanced UI experience and interchangeable menu themes. It’s battery allows c.24 hours continuous playback on one charge meaning it’ll be there for you on the longest of journeys.
